Japan & South Korea Business Development Mission

Invest Puerto Rico will meet with corporate leaders, investors, and industry partners across Asia, with engagements in Japan and South Korea, to discuss opportunities for expansion into the United States through Puerto Rico.

As a U.S. jurisdiction with a long-established advanced manufacturing base, Puerto Rico provides companies direct access to the U.S. market within the U.S. legal, regulatory, and financial systems. Companies operating in Puerto Rico manufacture within the United States while benefiting from a globally competitive operating environment.

Eligible companies may qualify for a 4% fixed Puerto Rico corporate tax rate and 0% U.S. federal tax on qualifying income.

April 13–17, 2026

Japan is a global leader in precision manufacturing, robotics, electronics, and advanced technologies.

During this visit, Invest Puerto Rico will meet with Japanese companies evaluating U.S. manufacturing expansion, supply chain diversification, and North American market access.

Puerto Rico offers Japanese companies:

  • Integration into U.S. regulatory and intellectual property frameworks

Trade between Japan and the United States is governed by U.S. tariff schedules under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS). As a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Japan benefits from Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) tariff treatment.

Puerto Rico exports pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotechnology products, and chemical products to Japan, while imports from Japan include robotics, semiconductor equipment, automotive components, and advanced manufacturing machinery.

South Korea

April 20–24, 2026

South Korea is a global leader in semiconductors, electronics, automotive manufacturing, and advanced industrial technologies.

During this visit, Invest Puerto Rico will engage with Korean companies seeking to expand operations in the United States and strengthen their North American footprint.

Puerto Rico provides Korean companies:

Trade between the United States and South Korea benefits from the U.S.–Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA), which significantly reduces tariffs on many industrial and consumer goods.
